Our Charity

Although the hospitals receive NHS funding they only remain pioneers and world-class centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of heart and lung patients thanks to the extra funding that the Charity can provide for carefully selected projects.

Our current priorities are:

Royal Brompton Hybrid Theatre Appeal

OperationHybrid Theatres combine complex imaging equipment in an environment where different surgical procedures can take place at the same time, meaning series of procedures which would normally take weeks, or even months, can be done on the same day.

Investing £4.5m in a hybrid theatre will provide long-term benefits for patients and clinicians and ensure that Royal Brompton remains a world leader in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.

Harefield Heart & Lung Appeal

Organ Care SystemOrgan Care Systems (OCS) reduce deterioration of hearts and lungs during transportation, meaning increased chances of a successful transplantation and fewer post-operative complications.

Every time an organ is transported a new, disposable ‘kit’ needs to be used to connect the organ to the Care System unit. We are looking to raise £140k to buy more of these kits for the hospital.

Over the last five years, Harefield has seen a five-fold increase in demand for stress echocardiography, an ultrasound test that shows how well heart muscles are working to pump blood to the body. This demand is only set to increase, which is why we are now looking to also raise £144k to create a new Echo Room and to employ more specialist staff.

Helping our hospitals save lives

Every donation helps

Every donation makes a real difference to the lives of patients. Whether your contribution enables us to buy a piece of equipment, support patient amenities, or fund research, every pound donated to our charity helps in the fight the world’s biggest killers – heart and lung disease.
