Thanks to our generous supporters and £100,000 match funding from the Kusuma Trust UK, we’ve raised over £200,000 for our ‘Transforming Your Care Appeal’ to support a new electronic observations system at our hospitals.

What is Transforming Your Care?

Transforming Your Care was our appeal to raise £200,000 for patient-focussed technology to be rolled out across Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. It will allow clinical staff at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals to use a mobile device to collect patient observations instead of recording them manually. Patients observations, which can be anything from pulse rate to temperature, are given an automated to score against the average. If anything above the average is calculated, a doctor is contacted for further assessment.

By having a mobile device automate these vital signs, a new standardisation of the assessment and response process is formed. It will allow for automated alerts which will ensure that care is delivered at the right time and by the appropriate clinician.

The technology will also support clinical staff in utilising early warning technology for the potentially life-threating condition, sepsis. The technology we’re funding uses algorithms and track-and-trigger systems alongside our nurses’ own expertise to enable them to identify early signs of sepsis, meaning treatment can start earlier and more lives can be saved.

Thank you to everyone who supported this life-saving appeal.
