170 dedicated supporters of Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals braved the rainy weather to participate in the 2024 London Bridges Walk, raising £11,000 to provide Royal Brompton Hospital with vital imaging equipment.

We were thrilled that this year's event, held on Sunday 7 July, saw our largest turnout ever. Participants gathered at the Morpeth Arms in Westminster and embarked on a scenic route through Central London, crossing six iconic bridges over the Thames. A heavy rainstorm settled over the route later in the afternoon, but fortunately most of the walkers made it back to the pub before the downpour began.

The walk featured landmarks such as Lambeth Palace, the Royal Festival Hall, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern, and St Thomas’ Hospital, the sister hospital of Royal Brompton and Harefield. Walkers persevered despite the rain, crossing from Lambeth Bridge to the Millennium Bridge, united by a shared mission to help heart and lung patients.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Morpeth Arms for giving our walkers a warm welcome and for providing them with towels, food and drinks to dry off. Gratitude also goes to Ripe London for donating fruit to keep walkers energised, and to Jenny Sunshine Faces for offering delightful face painting.

Special thanks to all the fantastic walkers and teams, especially “Brave Hearts” who kept everyone’s spirits up by playing music on the route and to regular supporter Eugene Miskelly, who returned for another year.

This year's event raised £11,000, all of which will go towards the Royal Brompton Gamma Camera appeal, which will bring a first of its kind in London imaging system to Royal Brompton Hospital.Thank you to everyone who walked and donated. You made this day a huge success. Your generosity will help advance care for many people with heart and lung conditions.
