Our Harefield Haemodialysis Appeal has triumphantly exceeded its fundraising target, securing over £165,000 to acquire six new haemodialysis machines. These new machines will greatly enhance the care of more than 150 severely ill heart and lung patients.

Initiated to enhance the treatment of critically ill patients who require dialysis, the appeal aimed to provide a more efficient and comfortable alternative to traditional dialysis. Previously, dialysis took 12-hours to complete and had to be done overnight. Patients were connected to noisy machines that disrupted their sleep and comfort.

The new haemodialysis machines offer a transformative 4-hour daytime treatment, significantly improving patients' comfort and overall wellbeing by ensuring restful nights, which are crucial for their recovery.

The impact of these machines extends beyond patient comfort. By reducing treatment times, they are set to save over 75 days of valuable nursing care annually, allowing medical staff to allocate more time to other critical tasks.

Sydney Bunting, Transplant Service Manager at Harefield Hospital, expressed heartfelt gratitude:

Just to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Harefield Haemodialysis appeal. This appeal will improve patient care as it offers reduced treatment time from around 12 hours to four.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of donors, patients at Harefield Hospital can now look forward to better rest, faster recovery and getting home to their families sooner. Thank you for all your wonderful donations to this appeal.
